RELIGION: African has been worshiping
God through various disciples of God across the continent before the arrival of the Western world into Africa. The called
all the disciples 'idols, whereas they are not; disciples of God in Africa are not being referred to as creator and
the Worshipers did not call them God. They are mere messengers of God. But because of the language barrier, the colonial Masters
did not understand the position of the disciples. African pray through these messengers to God for victory and for blessings,
to heal sick people and to make barren women to have children, and surprisingly God answered their prayers through this
means. Few of the God disciples in Africa are :
a. Ogun – god of Iron
b. Esu – god of trouble
c. Sango – god of thunder
d. Obatala – god of
e. Obaluaye – god of the universe
f. Olomolu – god of
g. Ifa – god of peace
h. Iyemoja – god of peace
i. Egungun – god of masquerades
j. Agemo – god of chameleon
k. Igunuko - god of
l. Osanyin – god of herbs
m. Oro – god of
n. Osun – god of rivers
OGUN:- If you want to worship through Ogun to seek God favour , blessing and victory e.t.c. The worshiper
will provide one big cork , cola, bitter cola, palm oil, roasted yam, roasted maize hot drink (alcoholic) , water, Palm wine,
snail , tortoise, male dog, offering all the items to Ogun with your prayer. It is Ogun priest that will direct the affair
and Ogun in return will carry your request to God and you should be expecting a good result.
IFA:- This is another disciple of God in Africa. Ifa is a foreteller or a visionary. Ifa could tell you about
your past, present and what the future will look like. Prayers are made through Ifa to God to solve whatever problems you
have, you will have to offer the following before you can talk to Ifa:- Alcoholic hot drink, Pig, pigeon, Ram, Cola, Bitter
cola in addition to whatever Ifa directed you to present, but it is not a difficult thing to do , Ifa never directed anybody
to do evil nor face a difficult task, a priest of Ifa will put everything in order.
ESU:- This is normally found very near Ogun temple. They are always together because the are friends abd they work
together but they take their offer separately. Esu normally take Goat, Cork, Water, Palm-oil, Cola, Bitter-cola.
OSANYIN: is also a disciple of God . He speaks out openly to people in his temple. He is a vissioner and
he reveals past , present and future. The different between Ifa and Osanyin is that Ifa priest will watch Odu Ifa and interprint
to people what Ifa say and what to do, but in the case of Osanyin, Osanyin will speak out openly for people to hear what is
saying clearly no interpretation, Osanyin Prist will only guide or assist who ever Osanyin is talking to according Osanyin
instruction.
ORO: is a very strong disciple of God. It is forbidding for woman to enter into ORO Temple, This disciple
is used to appease diseases spirit in case epidemic brakeout in a city or any bad diseases. The elderly men will go to Oro
temple and offer prayers and they will announce to the whole city that people should stay indoor between 11.p.m and 5.a.m
especially women young and old. Then people will inform their relations out-side the city to note the time, and not
to come into the city within the said hour. ORO will come into the city and everybody will feel his presence. It doesn’t
enter into people’s house, it would only parade the city. If any girl or woman regardless of his age peeped at ORO no
matter how perfect or clever, she would die. This activity might lasted for either a day, 3 days, 7 days and it might be up
to 21 days. After the parade, the epidemic or any type of diseases it might be will clear off and there will be peace
in the city. The disciples of God in Africa are thousands with different names and different tribes. We only pick few from
Yoruba tribe in Nigeria. These disciples have their specific period in a year that their followers used to come from all parts
of the world.
·
OSUN/ IYEMOJA: This is a spirit of River. The sacrificial period is in the Month of August.
People all over the world used to come for this festival because people believe in it very well. There must be rain during
the festival. The festival is very colourful. During the occasion a big fish usually comes up to the bank of the River. This
fish is a symbol of the spirit of the Osun/Yemoja disciple. At the instant of emerging of this big fish from the water
everybody around must be praying asking for whatever you want at that particular year. Surely you will get the answer to your
prayer.
If you need detail information on any of the God disciples in Africa, contact us, we furnish you with more information.
MONARCH: The Monarch system was in order before the visitation of the Western World into Africa. We have our Kings,
and other Chiefs in place. The palace administration in place. The chiefs are the law makers while the king (Oba) will
approve the laws, they also have police, they are called (Akoda) in Yoruba language, they always be in the palace, they are
to invite and to arrest whoever reports been brought to the palace. They are also in charge of the prison. Every case is being
prosecuted in the palace after council of chiefs might have decided their judgement on the case been deliver to the king (Oba)
who will look into the mater and pronounced his judgement openly of which nobody could change again. It comes and it
stays, that is the reason why Yoruba tribe used to call king as (Alase Ekeji Orisa Oke) means king is next
to God. Whatever judgement made by the king is the final, whatever king say is in order. If you are to summon somebody
into the palace, you will present all the following to the king: palm wine, goat, out locally made hot drink (Alcoholic),
alligator pepper, bitter cola, cola, and some cowries be added. After the judgement of the case whoever found
guilty will face the wrath of the law to be decided by the chiefs and delivered by the king. Our king wear crown locally and
traditionally made, the beads on their neck and on the beads on their neck and on the two head, the wears locally made embroidly
(Aso-Oke) and they also wear shoe made of animal skin with horse tail in their hands. When a king is going out, he would be
accompanied by (Akoda) local police security. Our king do ride on horses. Yearly every family must pay royalty to the king
by giving a certain percentage of his farm product to the king.
EDUCATION: The Africans have their various pattern of Education. The money they spent after the era of trade by
batter were cowries. they have their native ways of counting their money, and what ever worth counting , For example in
Yoruba tribe One (1) (one) means (Ookan)
2. (Two) (Eeji)
3. (Three) (Eeta)
4. (Four) (Eerin)
5. (Five) (Aarun)
10. (Ten) (Eewa)
20 (Twenty) (Ogun)
30 (Thirty) (Ogbon),
100 (Hundred) (Ogorun), etc
COMMUNICATION: Africans have their ways of communicating with each other before the visitation of the Western World
into Africa.
Love Communication: For example, if a man love’s a lady or a woman loves a man, he or she would pull
out one long string of his or her hair from his or her head, and small out of his or her nail from two tolls and put
it in a leaf and tie it with rope and send it to the opposite sex. When he or she received the parcel and open it to
see the content, it means that the sender loves the person from head to toll with all his or her heart.
To Fight war: If you want to fight somebody or wage war with a community, one would cut a leaf, put gun powder
in the leaf tie it with rope then send it to the person or the head of that community.
To end war: If you put alligator pepper, or bitter cola, cola, in a leaf and you tie it and send it to somebody
the person knew that you are seeking his or her favour to end a war. You are appealing to him to seize fire, to allow
the war to rest. It is also a symbol of good views, peace and appreciation, etc. The message you mean to send will determine
what you are sending to the person in Nigeria culture. We call this method of communication (Aroko). Every tribes
in Africa has their own method of communication.
SOCIAL GATHERING: Traditional marriage in every part of Africa is highly interesting. Traditional marriage involves
the couples to put on traditional clothes e.g. Aso-Oke or Adire etc depending on the tribe they belong to. The couple will
put beads to march with the clothes. The elders will break the cola, bitter cola, alligator pepper, Original honey,
locally made alcoholic drink, palm wine, and they will offer prayers, before the couple are join together. The Bride
must have settled all the request of the lady to be married e.g. boxes of traditional dresses for the new wedded wife, beads
of various type of shoes, yam tubers, goat or ram, bush meat, fresh fishes, smoke fishes, money, etc, plus any other
request that might come from the lady’s family. The groom’s family will look into what the Bride brought according
to their request before they were joined together as husband and wife. The Bride will come with different envelopes containing
money, and an envelope to the father of the Groom to be married and one to the mother, Head of the family, all the wives in
the family, all the children in the family, and other recognized member of the family.
MARRIAGE PROCEDURES: Introduction of the Groom is done in the Bride family’s house, the Bride’s
father, mother, friends, members of her family and well wishers will be there, while the Groom will come with his father,
mother, members of his family, friends and well wishers into the gathering. The father of the Bride will ask her daughter
who are these people, the lady will answer, they are the families of my Groom she heartedly wanted to marry as husband. She
will then be asked to point her husband among the people sitting down, after this is done then the man will stand up and prostrate.
The lady’s father will query her daughter: Does anybody enforcing you to marry this man? .She will say no, then he asked
again; are you telling your family today that if we grant this marriage, you will not disgrace us by coming
to this family to inform us that you want to divorce him and remarry to another man?. she will say no. The Bride’s
father will then turn his question to the Groom: Mr. Man, Who are you? He will mention his name. What do you do for living?
he will say his work. Why are you here? he will reply. I came here because of my proposed wife (her name), do you love her?
he will say yes, does any body enforcing you to marry her,? he will say no, I love her. Are you telling us that you will never
come here to tell us that you are not marring her again because you have seen another beautiful lady?. He will say no,
he will be instructed to sit down from where he prostrated or standing up. One member of the Bride’s family will now
stand-up to introduce every member of the Bride’s family to the family of the Groom while all his families will stand
up at once, and men will prostrate women will go on their knees. They will thank the family of the lady, for receiving
them to their family. The head of the Bride’s family will tell them to sit down. Somebody from the Groom’s family
will pray for peace to reign between the two families and the couple. Then they will present what ever gift they have brought
for the Bride and her entire family members. The head or any appointed person among the wives in the lady’s family will
receive the gift, and the whole wives will thank them for the offer. They will now sit down for entertainment, cola will be
broken by the elder of the lady’s family and pray for the marriage to be a successful one and peace to reign in the
two families. Both families will pray in various ways for peace to reign among the couples and the two families. They will
now be served with very delicious traditional food, e.g. palm wine and locally made alcoholic drink, the bitter cola, alligator
pepper, cola broken for prayers will be eaten by everybody. After this, the oldest of the family wives from the Bride’s
family will present the list of their request before the marriage is granted. The requested items will go to his father
in-law, the father in-law will consult the rest member of his family, they will sit down in a meeting and pick a date for
the marriage ceremony. They will now pass the date to their in-law. On the marriage day, the couple will dance to traditional
music. It is very interesting to witness a traditional marriage in Africa.
NAMING CEREMONY: When we have new born baby in Africa we name our child according to the family traditional set-up
for such and it varies. Some name their newly born baby three months after the delivery while some named their child eight
months after the delivery. On the naming day, the father of the child will present:- cola nut, bitter cola, alligator pepper,
water, salt, honey, locally made alcoholic drink. The elder in the family will pray with the items and named the child. Each
of this items has a symbols for prayer. For example: The cola nut will pull away sudden death from the child
and his or her life will be full with joy and sweetness like that of salt and honey,
Water will be used to pray thus: Has water has no enemy, the child will overcome every power of enemies.
Alligator pepper will be used to pray thus: Has there are many seeds inside alligator pepper the new
born baby’s children will fill his/her house and he/she will be very fruitful.
As the prayer are been said, the name of the child will be mentioned. If the birth of the baby is a normal delivery, the
father of the baby will determine the name to be given to the child but if the delivery has a very special remark, the very
special remark will determine his/her name.

For example, if a baby is born with his/her placenta rolled round his/her neck in Yoruba tribe, the child’s

If a child is delivered with two legs coming out from the mother’s womb before the head comes out such a child is
called IGE,

beach, slavery market building in Badagry, where you will see how Nigerians were being transported to
Europe for slavery. The iron chain used are still there. Olumo rock is the rock that the people hide themselves during Kiriji
war and they were not hurt, the rock that has space like rooms under it and other exciting things that worth witnessing
e.g. the said Olumo rock on the tale pick of it, there water is gushing out as if water pipe is fixed there and it has been
like that since the genesis of the world. The kiriji war earlier mentioned was the time when western world ammunition
was introduced into Nigeria in late 17th century and early 18th century.
